Vendor Selection
Your manufacturer is your partner in the design of your vehicle, which means their work and
advice will affect your Program every single day. Just as you would with potential partners,
funders and staff, take the time to research vehicle manufacturers. Check for things like:
• Are they local or out of State, Region or Province?
• If out of State or Province, are they familiar with the regulations governing
your service area, and can they support those regulations?
• How will their location impact your ability to visit their plant during vehicle
design and build?
• What’s their reputation in the industry? Ask the Association or other providers.
• Have they built the kind of vehicle you’re looking for before?
• What’s their current workload like, and how will that impact your delivery date?
• Do they work with a particular chassis manufacturer?
• Do they provide after-sales service and maintenance?
• What kind of warranties do they offer?
