Indemnity: Protection against financial loss or burden. Your memorandum of understanding
(MOU) may contain an indemnity clause to protect all parties’ interests . See also: liability .

Infection control: Procedures and precautions to prevent the spread of disease on your mo-
bile health vehicle . Infection control is a critical part of any implementation plan, but procedures
should be continually checked and reassessed for the duration of your program .

Informed consent: Permission granted by a patient or client to perform a health service or
disclose personal information . Informed consent can only be given if the patient or client under-
stands the facts and consequences of the service. Be sure to outline a clear informed consent
policy for staff before you begin serving clients.
Key performance indicator (KPI): A metric that demonstrates how well your program is performing
against established goals . The number of people participating in your community health events is
a key KPI for mobile healthcare programs .

Knowledgeable neighbor model: Popularized by the Family Van mobile health service, this
model of care focuses on creating a safe, inclusive and trustworthy environment that reflects the
social and cultural norms of the community it serves .

Liability: Responsibility for a specific outcome. In the case of a memorandum of understanding,
it’s important to be clear about which parties are liable for financial burdens or incurred costs.

Load balancing: The even distribution of data traffic by broadband routers across connected
           devices, increasing total bandwidth

Logistical competency: The capability to organize non-clinical aspects of your program (e .g ., dis-
tribution and collection of permission forms or marketing and communications) . Look for partner
organizations with high logistical competency; this can save you many hours and ensure a con-
sistent experience for your clients .

Maintenance plan: A schedule of required and recommended service for your mobile health
vehicle, and a checklist of vehicle parts to be inspected . Your manufacturer should supply a
maintenance plan for your vehicle .

Memorandum of understanding (MOU): Like a contract, an MOU outlines each party’s respon-
sibilities in a given arrangement . An MOU can be helpful for organizing responsibilities when
partnering with a community organization .

Mission statement: A statement of your program’s core values and its promise of care to the
community. Your mission statement should briefly identify community need and articulate your
           goals and your impact .

Mobile Health Map: A nonprofit network and research community that provides tools to mobile
healthcare programs and collects data from those programs in order to measure the impact of the
sector as a whole . (mobilehealthmap .org)
