Mission statement
The mission statement is your program’s identity, a statement of its core values . It functions as a
promise of care to the community. It should briefly identify community need and articulate your
goals and your planned impact on client care and quality of life. It should be easy to articulate —
a calling card your colleagues, volunteers and partners can lead with in all conversations about
your program .
Here’s an example of a strong mission statement from Ohio Northern University’s Mobile Health
Clinic and University of Florida, College of Medicine .
Example 1
Ohio Northern University’s
Mobile Health Clinic Mission Statement
Ohio Northern University’s Mobile Health Clinic, in partnership with
Kenton – Hardin Health Department, Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton
Community Health Center and other stakeholders with Hardin County,
Strives to provide accessible, quality, interdisciplinary healthcare for
residents of Hardin County, Ohio through disease state management,
medication reconciliation, and preventative health education services, in
order to improve patient health outcomes with also providing an effective
training environment for future healthcare professionals and leaders .
Example 2
University of Florida
Medical – College of Medicine Mission Statement
The mission of the Mobile Outreach Clinic is to provide an inter-
professional learning environment to College of Medicine and other
health science students as we deliver basic health care to medically
underserved communities in Alachua County .
If you’re having trouble laying out the mission statement, it may help to first develop a 15-second
elevator pitch . This will naturally surface the most important points, on which you can build the
rest of the statement .
