Partnerships Overcome Disparities, Increase Sustainability, and Create Healthier Communities (PDF)

This presentation will show that partnerships with local, state, national organizations, NGOs, and universities increase impact and access. Practical solutions are created for healthcare disparities in marginalized communities. Patients receive comprehensive care through education and connections to medical referral partners in a wide range of specialties.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, our mobile clinic worked in parking lots and traveled to marginalized communities to give free COVID-19 tests and administer vaccines to the homeless, low-income, no-income, migrant farmworkers, children, and families. University medical programs and various health agencies made this possible. Hurricane Ian devastated Southwest Florida on Sept. 28, 2022, and we faced our biggest challenge of all. With the help of multiple relief organizations, NGOs, and our local hospital system, we deployed our medical clinics to the hardest-hit areas. Our partners provided emergency operating funds, medical supplies, and equipment. With their assistance, over 4,000 storm victims received lifesaving care and emergency supplies.

Because of these catastrophic events, community awareness of our services grew, increasing our credibility and trust. Long-term strategic partnerships for funding, medical supplies, and valuable advice were established. Individual donations, the number of communities we serve, and our volunteer ranks increased dramatically.

Agreements with University nursing and medical student programs enable us to provide free health care to the underserved. Student nurses and medical residents gain hands-on experience and an understanding of issues in marginalized communities. Patients are educated in disease prevention and management.
