New Jersey (NJ) is home to 9.2 million residents across 21 counties and is one of the most densely populated and diverse states in the U.S. Unfortunately, NJ faces a high cancer burden, ranking 4th in cancer incidence (481.9 per 100,000 vs. the U.S. average of 442.3) with an estimated 56,360 new cases in 2022. However, NJ ranks 41st in cancer mortality, showing some progress (141.0 vs. 149.4 U.S. average). In response to these challenges, ScreenNJ launched a statewide, free multi-cancer screening program, including a mobile health clinic, to improve screening access for underserved populations. Through partnerships with over 270 community sites and 200 clinical locations, ScreenNJ has navigated 77,000+ patients to screenings, supported early detection of 3,600+ cancers, and provided vital education. The program aims to break down barriers to care, especially for uninsured or socioeconomically disadvantaged patients, by connecting them to screening, diagnostic, and treatment services.
